Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where it falls, there will it lie

I have a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver. I don’t like the sound it makes. It kill my bass and at times sound is like nails on a chalkboard. I deal with it with a low gain setting and the tone turned down, but I want to do better with what I have, but I don’t want (Ok, I do want, but am not gonna/shouldn’t) look into buying some other pedal.

So, I heard about this thing called google that I fired it up and did a search for Blues Driver mod. I got back a few results. It can be done. The question is, how much should I pay for the information on how to do it, and who’s mod instructions should I go with? Should I even pay for instructions? Is there some secret location with instruction that I was unable to uncover with the google. Generally speaking, how much do the parts cost for mods? Where do I order such things or pick up locally?

There seem to be so many info packs and kits for sale out there, surely someone knows where I can get info on what to do, with what, and where to get it. Maybe you have a preference or ideas as to what can be done. Please help me out.

PS: I saw the Keeley Mod, but I’m not really into paying $130 at the moment for this type of thing. Something a little more DIY/cheaper would definitely be nice.
