YouVersion for webOS is out! Here’s some important information about the YouVersion Bible app for webOS and a promotion that Palm is running that could help earn Youversion some extra funding for improving not only webOS but also other mobile Bible apps. From Scott Magdalein, LifeChurch.tv project manager below…

YouVersion has a huge opportunity to make serious waves in the WebOS space in the month of June…with your help. Right now Palm is running a contest to see who can pull in the most downloads before June 30. It’s been running for a few months already so we’re late to the game, but I think with your help we’ll be able to bump up into the top 21 apps range. The prize money we win will go back into development of our mobile platforms to stretch the reach of the Bible to more and more people.

What You Can Do
The best thing you can do to help YouVersion rise in the ranks is to SHARE! Here are some ideas for ways to share YouVersion with your friends (Palm users and everyone else, too).

Tweet it or post it to Facebook – Just a simple tweet like, “YouVersion’s Bible app for Palm Pre & Pixi is competing for $100,000 in Palm’s Hot Apps contest at http://palmhotapps.com/details.jsp?packageid=com.youversion.palm! Download it now to help it win!” … or something. Feel free to shorten that URL.

Blog it – If you’re the blogging type, write a quick post telling your faithful readers how much you enjoy the YouVersion Bible app for Palm and link them directly to the app at http://palmhotapps.com/details.jsp?packageid=com.youversion.palm.

Suggest it to friends on Facebook by sharing our YouVersion Facebook page with them – http://facebook.com/youversion

Good ol’ email! – Send the link (http://palmhotapps.com/details.jsp?packageid=com.youversion.palm) to your friends that would be interested. Let them know that all they have to do is download the app for FREE to help support the GLOBAL distribution of FREE Bibles!

YouTube – For you brave video-friendly folks, record a YouTube video of yourself and your YouVersion Bible app on Palm. Video is powerful and can be really compelling.

When you do any of these things (or ALL of them!) send me a link to your post or blog or tweet or video, and YouVersion will share with the rest of the YouVersion community to help spread the word. To keep up with the progress of how the YouVersion app is climbing in the ranks, go to http://palmhotapps.com/index.jsp (right now we’re ranked 171 in the free section).

So, if you or someone you know is using a webOS device (palm pre, pre plus, pixi, or pixi plus), download it now AND also let your friends know. Send them to this page to get the link: http://samuelfebres.com/blog/webosbible or give them this bit.ly link: http://bit.ly/webosbibleapp

The competition ends June 30th. Let’s go! Let’s get the most downloads possible, and win $10,000 or even $100,000 for YouVersion mobile app development!

Another night another dream!

The details of this one are a lot more vague but a theme seems to be developing.

In the dream I had last night I found myself in a room in a big house. This time, I was being chased by some sort of monster. I don’t remember seeing the creature, but I knew what he looked like. He was very tall and his body was shaped like the old ‘My Pet Monster’ toys from my childhood, but he was definitely not someone you wanted to mess with.

This time in the dream Nat wasn’t with me initially but then I found her, and after I did we both escaped from the house together.

What was interesting this time about the dream was that the monster came out of the house but not in his physical form, and I knew that. He possessed the bodies of other individuals, and it was easy for us to see who was possessed. In the dream it was older men, and in particular a Chinese man, who slowly walked forward with a blank face. I warned Nat not to touch or look at him, and we raced on. This was the end of the dream.

So a theme from dream last night & the one before is that I’m being chased, and Natalie is involved. Weird.

I’m not one to normally ‘have’ dreams so when one comes along and I wake up remembering it, I’m usually pretty excited about it.

Last night’s dream was definitely one of the more memorable and exciting ones I have had in a long time.

Here are the details I remember.

In the dream, something happened or something I did (I can’t remember or didn’t know) caused me to start getting chased by these guys (I think there were 3 of them) with swingable (bat-like) objects.

I was able to get away safely from them, and arrived at Peter Boulware’s house where he let me in and I met with a couple of other guys. Once I got there I discovered that the guys who were chasing me, had decided to go to my house and take Natalie hostage. They held her and a small party of people hostage in my house because they could not find me.

I was briefly able to speak with Natalie and I told her not to worry and that we would get them soon and to not tell the guys anything.

We then began plotting on how to rescue the hostages inside Peter’s house. Then I woke up.

So that was my dream.

The last movie I saw was Shutter Island(youtube trailer), because I’m sure a few of you might be thinking to ask me what I last saw. I watched it on Thursday night, 3 nights ago.

So, have you had any strange dreams lately?

Florida State Head Coach Bobby Bowden Announces Bowl Will Be His Last Game

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida State University Head Football Coach Bobby Bowden announced Tuesday that the Seminoles’ upcoming bowl game will be his last game. Bowden, who will complete his 34th season as coach at Florida State, will coach the Seminoles in the bowl game and finish his career as one of the winningest coaches in the history of major college football.

“The bowl game will be my last game as head football coach at Florida State,” said Bowden. “It’s been a great 34 seasons.

“I’d like to thank my wife Ann and my family for their love and support. There were a lot of nights when I was on the road and not at home at the dinner table. We all know that’s part of it.

“I’d also like to thank the coaches and their families who helped build the program into something that is special. You can’t have a successful program without players and we have been blessed to have young men who are winners both on and off the field. I want to thank them and their families for committing 4-5 years of their lives to me and to FSU.

“Finally, I’d like to thank the University and FSU fans who have supported the Florida State program. We’ve got one more game and I look forward to enjoying these next few weeks as the head football coach.”

Bowden was named National Coach of the Year six times (1979, 1980, 1991, 1992, 1996 and 1999), and a national award presented by The Fellowship of Christian Athletes bears his name. He led Florida State to national championships in 1993 and again in 1999, the latter being the first team in the history of the Associated Press poll to go wire-to-wire ranked No. 1.

Wetherell, who will retire from the presidency of Florida State when his successor is installed as president — perhaps within a few months — said Bowden’s “sterling personality and character” personified Florida State University.

“Bobby Bowden is not only one of the most outstanding college football coaches in history but also a great man who you would want as a mentor to your children,” Wetherell said.

“Every true Seminole fan appreciates all that he has done in service to the university and all that he has accomplished for its football program — two national championships, 12 ACC championships, 14 straight seasons among the Associated Press’ Top Five, two Heisman Trophy winners and a Rhodes Scholar, induction into the College Football Hall of Fame — but more than that, he has been an off-the-field mentor to so many young men looking to their future.”

Wetherell, who was one of those young men, said he hopes Florida State’s Athletics Department will plan a celebration and recognition for Bowden during next year’s football season.

In his own tribute to Bowden, Wetherell said:

“Bobby Bowden has served as our head football coach and inspirational `friend-raiser’ for more than 30 years. He led our football program to unprecedented success and established it among the nation’s elite for many years. He set records of achievement on the field that will probably never be equaled.

“Bobby Bowden contributed in many ways to the overall success and advancement of a young and growing university, and the entire Bowden family is also a major part of this success story.

“I played for Bobby Bowden 45 years ago, when I was a young man, and he was an assistant coach under Bill Peterson.

“The bond between player and coach is strong enough, but our relationship forged even more powerful bonds as we worked hard for the university’s advancement. With me and other presidents, Bobby Bowden helped raise public and private dollars to build some of the most impressive athletics facilities in the nation and to bring additional recognition to Florida State’s academic achievements.

“Millions of Americans could see the good work and academic contributions of our university through the window of national television –a window that winning football teams provide for their institutions.

“Bobby Bowden, in many ways, became the face of Florida State. It was his sterling personality and character that personified this university. And because his influence was so powerful, we were able to advance far beyond what many of us ever dreamed.”

My father sent me this in an email. It made me smile. It’s attributed to Gabriel García Márquez. I cannot verify whether or not that is true, but I can tell you, the words below do ring true if you’ve ever met a Puerto Rican. If you haven’t, this is what is in store for you.

There is nobody who does not know a Puerto Rican, or at least knows someone who knows a Puerto Rican.

Anyway, once a wise teacher said:

What is a Puerto Rican?

His response was ah, Puerto Ricans … that difficult question! Puerto Ricans are among us but not from us. Puerto Ricans drink from the same cup joy and sorrow. They make music of their sorrow and laugh about their music.

Puerto Ricans take jokes seriously and make jokes of the serious things. They do not believe in anyone but believe everything. Don’t you dare argue with them, ever!

Puerto Ricans are born with wisdom. They don’t need to read, they know everything! They don’t need to travel, they have seen everything! Puerto Ricans are like the chosen people, and they choose themselves.

Puerto Ricans are characterized individually by their charm and wit and in groups for their shouting and passion. Each carries the spark of genius and geniuses do not get along with each other, hence bringing together Puerto Ricans is easy, but creating a consensus amount them is almost impossible.

They do not talk about logic, because that involves reasoning and restraint and Puerto Ricans are hyperbolic and exaggerated. For example, if a Puerto Rican invites you to a restaurant to eat, you were invited not to the best restaurant in town, but the best restaurant in the world.

When they debate, they do not say, “I disagree with you,” but “you are absolutely wrong.”

They have cannibalistic tendencies, so then when they say to you, “He ate it.” It is an expression of admiration, and when they say to you “He ate a cable,” is an expression of a critical situation.

Puerto Ricans love contradictions so much that they called their beautiful women monsters and their scholars’ barbarians. If a health condition is afflicting you, they say, “Man, if you have told me about it, I would have taken you to a physician who is a horse.”

Puerto Ricans offer solutions before they know the problem. For them there is never a problem. They know what must be done to eradicate terrorism, prosecute Latin America, end hunger in Africa, pay the foreign debt, who should be president and how America can become a world power.

They do not understand why other people do not understand when their ideas are so simple, and why people do not want to learn to speak Spanish like them.

Ah, Puerto Ricans … We cannot live much with them, but we cannot live without them!

Dedicated with affection to the people of the best country in the World …

So, do you agree?

Wow, these are some great commercials.

I’m neither an ATT or Verizon subscriber (Sprint), but this is going to be fun to watch. Apparently, ATT has sued Verizon, not because what they’re saying isn’t true (because it is actually), but because they claim that it makes them look like they have no service in the white areas of the map. Seems to me like they’re grasping for straws. It’s pretty obviously that Verizon is talking about 3G coverage only here.

I got this in an email last night and thought I’d share it for FSU football fans.

Coach Bobby Bowden is a friend of mine, as a mentor and coach since my freshman year at FSU in 1963. His character and commitment to excellence has always been the signature of his career. Two years ago Coach Bowden and I and others stood together and announced that we were beginning a period of transition for the football program. That plan is in place and will produce results, given the opportunity and support.
I want to assure all fans, friends, supporters and alumni of Florida State University that that transition will be finalized. Jimbo Fisher will be Florida State University’s next Head Football Coach. We expect to work with Coach Fisher on a contract toward that end, and I will evaluate the program with the athletics director at the end of this season.
As educators we teach our students to always do the right thing, to do it the right way and to never give up. We teach them to always strive for excellence and to make good decisions with that end in mind. Our athletics programs are built on the foundation of helping young people build character and display that in their personal actions as well as on the fields of play. We also expect our teams to be competitive.
Our administration also is committed to those ideals. In intercollegiate athletics that means evaluating every coaching position at the end of the season. Any coach can choose to retire at any time. However, it is the athletics director’s responsibility to determine which coaches are hired and which contracts are extended.
I know all of our fans, friends, supporters and alumni will accord the coaching staff and our young student-athletes all the support, encouragement and respect they deserve. I will respect the process. FSU does not make coaching changes in the middle of the season. We are going to win games and build character. We ask our coaches and players to play out every play of every game — and never, never quit. To quit on a team or coaches in mid season is not the Seminole way — not the “unconquered” way. What message would it send to anyone — friend or foe — to do that at this time?
Specifically, I also know that Bobby Bowden loves this university. I have talked with him at length, and I know that he will do the right thing, as he always has done. I know the man and I know what’s in his heart.
I have spoken with numerous fans, alumni, Boosters, supporters and staff, and I will make a final report to the full Board of Trustees at the end of the year. Until then, FSU will concentrate on supporting our team and student-athletes in winning as many games as possible. Neither the university nor I will have further comment on this matter until then.
For more news about FSU visit www.FSU.com

So, what are your thoughts? I like the stance President Wetherell has taken. He’s addressing it, and letting people know this is all that will be said and discussed. When it’s time to talk about something more, at that time, it will be brought up, but now is not that time.

My quick opinion is that FSU football fans are poor sports/losers.

Someone else’s thoughts regarding the above letter… with pictures.

This is the intersection where I had my accident back in February and lost my car, Venom.

It was a less than a year since I had finished paying Venom off so it was a major bummer, to say the least, and was probably the worst traffic accident I had ever been involved in.

Even though the other driver violated the traffic control device on the street which indicated that the lane he was in, he was to turn right only, the police officer ended up giving me a ticket for the accident.

The ticket said that I violated state statute 316.125, which states a Vehicle entering highway from private road or driveway or emerging from alley, driveway or building.

(1) The driver of a vehicle about to enter or cross a highway from an alley, building, private road or driveway shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching on the highway to be entered which are so close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard.
(2) The driver of a vehicle emerging from an alley, building, private road or driveway within a business or residence district shall stop the vehicle immediately prior to driving onto a sidewalk or onto the sidewalk area extending across the alley, building entrance, road or driveway, or in the event there is no sidewalk area, shall stop at the point nearest the street to be entered where the driver has a view of approaching traffic thereon and shall yield to all vehicles and pedestrians which are so close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard.
(3) A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a moving violation as provided in chapter 318.

I chose to fight it in court and this past Wednesday I was there with notes in hand as ready as I could be to defend myself.

That didn’t seem right, but it didn’t really matter because the police report stated that the statute I broke was State Statute 316.122 which states:

316.122 Vehicle turning left.–The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction, or vehicles lawfully passing on the left of the turning vehicle, which is within the intersection or so close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard. A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a moving violation as provided in chapter 318.

It was arguable to me that this applied as well, but that didn’t really seem to matter to much, because on my arraignment for court it stated I ran a stop sign. WHAT?! I looked that one up to to be prepared. I believe that would be state statute 316.123,

316.123 Vehicle entering stop or yield intersection.–
(1) The right-of-way at an intersection may be indicated by stop signs or yield signs as authorized in s. 316.006.
(2)(a) Except when directed to proceed by a police officer or traffic control signal, every driver of a vehicle approaching a stop intersection indicated by a stop sign shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the intersection. After having stopped, the driver shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from another highway or which is approaching so closely on said highway as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time when the driver is moving across or within the intersection.
(b) At a four-way stop intersection, the driver of the first vehicle to stop at the intersection shall be the first to proceed. If two or more vehicles reach the four-way stop intersection at the same time, the driver of the vehicle on the left shall yield the right-of-way to the vehicle on the right.
(3) The driver of a vehicle approaching a yield sign shall, in obedience to such sign, slow down to a speed reasonable for the existing conditions and, if required for safety to stop, shall stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or, if none, then at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway. After slowing or stopping, the driver shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle in the intersection or approaching on another highway so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time the driver is moving across or within the intersection. If such a driver is involved in a collision with a pedestrian in a crosswalk or a vehicle in the intersection, after driving past a yield sign without stopping, the collision shall be deemed prima facie evidence of the driver’s failure to yield the right-of-way.
(4) A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a moving violation as provided in chapter 318.

My defense for all of these was the same. I came to a complete stop as indicated. There was no approaching traffic coming on the INTERSECTING ROADWAY. There was a vehicle to my left in a Right Turn Only. As I began moving forward to enter the roadway, the vehicle in the Right Turn Only lane, violated Florida State Statute 316.074. This violation of State Statute 316.074 is the cause for the accident.

State Statute 316.074 states:
316.074 Obedience to and required traffic control devices.–
(1) The driver of any vehicle shall obey the instructions of any official traffic control device applicable thereto, placed in accordance with the provisions of this chapter, unless otherwise directed by a police officer, subject to the exceptions granted the driver of an authorized emergency vehicle in this chapter.
(2) No person shall drive any vehicle from a roadway to another roadway to avoid obeying the indicated traffic control indicated by such traffic control device.
(3) No provision of this chapter for which official traffic control devices are required shall be enforced against an alleged violator if at the time and place of the alleged violation an official device is not in proper position and sufficiently legible to be seen by an ordinarily observant person. Whenever a particular section does not state that official traffic control devices are required, such section shall be effective even though no devices are erected or in place.
(4) Whenever official traffic control devices are placed in position approximately conforming to the requirements of this chapter, such devices shall be presumed to have been so placed by the official act or direction of lawful authority unless the contrary shall be established by competent evidence.
(5) Any official traffic control device placed pursuant to the provisions of this chapter and purporting to conform to the lawful requirements pertaining to such devices shall be presumed to comply with the requirements of this chapter unless the contrary shall be established by competent evidence.
(6) A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a moving violation as provided in chapter 318.

Well, court day came, and I showed up. My officer was in the court room with me as well. When my name was finally called by the judge I approached and indicated that I requested a hearing. He verified 3 times that that was what I wanted to do. I said yes. He called up the police officer. The officer approached next to me.

The judge then called up the witnesses, which was the other driver, and another witness who was there when the accident happened and assisted at the time.

Neither were present. The police officer stated that he was motioning to dismiss since none of his witnesses were present.

The judge dismissed the case. Open and shut case. Praise Jesus for that working out the way that it did, but I certain felt ready to go at it that day.

I cannot believe what I heard out of the mouth of some dude the other night. He was about 2 years younger than I at the age of 27 and an avid supporter of President Obama by his admission and the t-shirt he was wearing.

The talk naturally came to politics and he brought up that Obama had a lot of haters because of the ‘hope’ he was bringing with his administration and then he said something along the lines about how he’s (Obama) is ‘going to make everyone equal’ with regards to finances and how that’s why rich people were upset. They obviously had extra money and were upset about having to share their wealth. Excuse me!?

Someone, kindly said that they would probably be upset too if they had to pay all these extra taxes for working hard to get rich. The gentleman didn’t seem to worry much about that concern.

Later on in the evening we were talking again and he said he didn’t want to be rich and I said for kicks that I was going to be rich some day. His response was “let me know when you get there so I can come get mine.”

I told him I would teach him everything I did to get there.

His response? I don’t want all that.

I must admit, I have a pet peeve, a gripe if you will, regarding the lack of respect people show towards others when it comes to addressing them by their proper name. There is nothing more annoying to me than when I reply to a client in an email, sign my name as Samuel Febres, and receive a response from the client that says something along the lines of ‘Hi Sam.’

Excuse me? Did I address myself as Sam or Sam Febres in a reply to your email? Did I give your permission or say it’s ok for you to call me Sam? Did I reply to you with some nickname variant of your name such as Mike for Michael or Pete for Peter, or Bill [updated per smarty pants wife] for William? No, I did not. Why would you then reply back to me with Sam? Do you feel you know me well enough to call me Sam? Are we friends like that? No, we are not.

My name is Samuel Febres. I would appreciate that you refer to me that way if that is the way I introduced myself to you. Thank you.
