Line 6 M13 pr0n
by Samuel Febres
So, yeah, my line 6 pedal finally came in. I pulled it out, plugged it in and started messing around. It’s nice getting new things. I’m really gonna enjoy this pedal.
For those that don’t know it’s basically a DL4, MM4, DM4, FM4, and verbzilla pedal all in one with a tuner included for good measure. Oh, and a 28 second looper as well.
The thing is nice and rugged feeling made out of all metal, has numerous connection options in the back for inputs/outputs and expression pedals and midi in and out connections which you can use to save your settings to a computer. Not sure if you can do anything else with the midi plugs aside from that though.
You can save up to 12 separate ‘scenes’ which is basically like having any 12 separate pedals you want on 12 pedalboards running up to 4 effects at one time. That took a while for me to fully understand but once I got it, it made perfect sense.
The pedal remembers any changes you make to a particular effect button for each scene as if it were a separate effect on your pedal board. If you don’t like that (initially I didn’t think I would until I fully understood how scenes work), you can choose to manually save settings instead of auto-saving, which means that whenever you switch off of an effect or change a scene, the setting for that switch goes back to how you had originally programmed it. Now that I have a better understanding of how scenes work, I probably wont’ be using that manual save option. If I start tweaking too much and forget what I had or liked, maybe I’ll go back, but I doubt that will happen.
Once of the benefits this pedal will have that differs from using a plain DL4 or MM4 is that I will be able to visually see what settings I’ve chosen or made to an effect because of the LCD screens. With the other pedals, once you’ve saved an effect, whenever you click on their individual button, that setting starts, but you don’t receive a visual indicator as to what the settings are. They are preset based on what was chosen when you saved them. I tend to forget these things at times (especially since I don’t tweak a whole lot. I’ve had a DL4 setting that I’ve used forever but I don’t remember how exactly it was saved (or necessary what it was)).
Anyway, I’m excited. I no longer have need for my DL4 or MM4 (or even my Boss TU-2 tuner). I’m looking to sell these if anyone is interested. You can email me at s.febres [at] samuelfebres [dawt] com for more info. I’d like to get around $125 for the line 6′s. They both come with power adapters and have been velcro-ed. Feel free to ask questions.
Here are some unboxing photos. The tech blogs like to do this, and I thought it would be fun as well.

I'm looking at getting an all-in-one board like this (again) at some point in the near future.
Our church worship band is going to be playing more venues in the near future and my monstrously heavy 2×12 Boogie and pedalboard is going to be a bear to lug. Not to mention that my amp won't fit in my car with the case.
How does the M13 compare to the POD XT Live?
I KNOW! I've been saying that for years.
Even the lady singers, need to man-up and grab and amp or two!
Yea, it's been a work in progress and I think I've finally got it to a point where I'm happy for a while.
The DL4 is sweet but with my rig it was all about pedalboard 'realestate'. I LOVE the Diamond Delay but being an analog unit I needed an additional digital delay to pick up where it left off. DL4 wouldn't fit so I went with the Empress, which is very impressive as well. The more I play that delay the more I love it.
I have to check out some of the MXR pedals at some point. Like you I do use my amps channel 2 for some drive tones but find myself defaulting to either the Zvex or Xotic most of the time.
Friend of mine has one of the Peavey Classic series amps and it does sound great!
I haven't used the PODxt Live and I'm not going to give up my amp any time soon, despite how I heavy it can be to tote that stuff around. I know the band Anberlin uses PODxt Lives. They sounded fine to me, but I'm not too intersted in that.
I just figured it would be nice to consolidate my pedals and space with this new one and get a couple of extra pedals out of the deal. That and I'm interested in finding out where I can fit that growler filter effect.
Dang! Nice rig man. I have that pedal board and I love it, but man, is it heavy. I'm surprised how much stuff you can fit into that little space. Awesome.
up until today I had on my board a DL4, MM4, an Aphex Aural Exciter, and ad MXRIII Distortion, a blues driver and a Boss TU2. For me, that works pretty good. I sometimes use the amp distortion as well, but haven't been using it that much recently.
I have a peavey classic 30 with a Celestion GH12 speaker I swapped out (I believe that's the model.)
It is the burden we were meant to carry. We should employ singers to assist us with loading in and out though.
Yeah, real estate looks expensive on your board.
The MXR I have is ok. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't.
Suggest to your friend to swap out the speaker if he heasn't. Will sound even better.
We used the POD up in nyc and it just sounded too digital for us. then again most of us were using orange amps or vox's or boutique setups. im interested in hearing this pedal sam.. even though im really not a big Line6 fan.
Yea, I'm still a little torn. I love my rig but like I said it's large and heavy to say the least. Maybe for those who pursue a killer tone that's just the burden we were meant to bear?
I'll have to check the M13 out next time I'm at the local shop.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the POD live. I tried it twice because of venue and rush necessities. I wouldn't do it ever again.
So jealous of the orange amps and voxes though. I've wanted an Orange and Vox for a quite a bit.
For some reason, I do like Line 6 even though generally I'm not a fan of multi effects pedals/boards. I think the fact that I could have the MM4/DL4 in one box with basically the filters, reverb, and distortion thrown in for free seemed like a good deal to me, so I bit.
I'll try and bring it tonight to practice.
